PREAMBLE:
The congregation of this Church, consistent with the democratic tradition, in the spirit of free fellowship and in the belief that the strength of the church is in its laity, declares this document to be the instrument of governance for all members, their elected officers and boards, authorized committees and the employees of this organization, known as:

The congregation acknowledges this document to be the successor to that adopted by the EDINA UNION CHURCH upon its organization on July 8, 1902; that adopted by the MORNINGSIDE CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH upon its organization on April 10, 1911; and that adopted by the newly merged EDINA MORNINGSIDE COMMUNITY CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH on May 25, 1934; together with all amendments and other changes appended to these prior documents.  This document supersedes the Constitution, adopted April 23, 1981 and was adopted by the membership of Edina Morningside Community Church in a special meeting assembled on May 12, 1996 amended as follows:

 ARTICLE I    POLITY
This Church acknowledges Jesus Christ as its head; and finds in the Holy Scriptures, interpreted by the Divine Spirit through human conscience, faith and reason, its guide in discipline, fellowship and outreach.  This Church accepts the 1959 United Church of Christ Statement of Faith as more fully expressing this relationship:

STATEMENT OF FAITH

(Approved by the Second General Synod of the United Church of Christ in 1959)

We believe in God, the Eternal Spirit, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and our Father, and to his deeds we testify:  He calls the worlds into being, creates man in his own image and sets before him the ways of life and death. He seeks in holy love to save all people from aimlessness and sin. He judges men and nations by his righteous will declared through prophets and apostles. In Jesus Christ, the man of Nazareth, our crucified and risen Lord, he has come to us and shared our common lot, conquering sin and death and reconciling the world to himself.

He bestows upon us his Holy Spirit, creating and renewing the Church of Jesus Christ, binding in covenant faithful people of all ages, tongues and races. He calls us into his Church to accept the cost and joy of discipleship, to be his servants in the service of men, to proclaim the gospel to all the world and resist the powers of evil, to share in Christ’s baptism and eat at his table, to join him in his passion and victory. He promises to all who trust him forgiveness of sins and fullness of grace, courage in the struggle for justice and peace, his presence in trial and rejoicing, and eternal life in his kingdom which has no end. Blessing and honor, glory and power be unto him. Amen.
